Dear Sirs,
ATTENTION OF MR. FOWLER-CLARKE.
re DISTRIBUTORLESS MAGNETO FOR 20.H.P.CAR.
With further reference to your letter of the 3rd inst., concerning Ignition Apparatus for your 20 H.P.Car, we shall be glad to hear from you in regard to the following points:-
(1) The Specification enclosed with your letter calls for a timing range of 50 - 58°. Does this refer to magneto timing range or angular position on engine crankshaft?
(2) Is the magneto to give two or four sparks per revolution of its shaft, corresponding to 1-1/2 or 3/4 times engine speed?
(3) Will the existing Distributor Head be used for dual-ignition (coil or magneto) and has the Distributor Head incorporated with it a contact breaker.?
We think it possible that a Distributorless 'CE' pattern Inductor Magneto will meet your requirements, the maximum timing range of which could be 22-1/2°. The magneto could be fitted with an Automatic Timing Device increasing this angle to 52-1/2°.
Perhaps you will kindly advise in regard to the above as early as possible when we will go further into the matter.
Yours faithfully,
A.P.YOUNG,
ENGINEER & MANAGER - COVENTRY WORKS,
