400. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} c.c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c.c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}2/VS.{J. Vickers}5.5.38. B.III 15,000 MILES' TEST. Referring to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}16/R.4.5.38., it should not be overlooked when endeavouring to accelerate tests in France that a good many stressed pieces on the second chassis will be in cast steel. We refer particularly to triangle levers, which have been made from castings in order to expedite manufacture, and if it should be decided to send the car to France in this condition we should like to know who is going to accept responsibility. It was anticipated this position would arise sooner or later, but we have no information as to whether finality has been reached regarding design of the parts in question and therefore no action has been taken as regards sinking of dies. If stampings are required, then we shall want at least ten to twelve weeks' notice, and would therefore appreciate an immediate decision as to what is intended regarding the following pieces :- FB.3313/4. Upper Triangle Levers. FB.3507/8. Lower " " GB.2792. Spring Bracket - Rear Axle. GB.2847. Support Bracket - Rear Axle. FB.3298. Bracket - Front End Rear Spring. FB.3372/3. Torque Arm Brackets.
