SECRET 49740 Rg{Mr Rowledge}5/W24. 4. 24 [REDACTED] FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. Design Committee Meeting Also present Mr. and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} A meeting was held primarily to discuss the position of the material that can be ordered for 200 sets. The material was discussed unit by unit as follows:- FRONT AXLE. It was considered that the front axle as a unit complete with brakes is sufficiently satisfactory for material to be ordered, subject to the steering levers and details which will be assembled early next week proving finally satisfactory. The front axle pivots and all material except these levers are to be ordered. SIDE STEERING TUBE. The side steering tube to be ordered is the one with a solid joint at the front end and a spring joint at the steering box end. The spring joint is the one allowing 1/2" movement with low rated springs slightly set up. Final detail drawings will be issued early next week for this part. The new design demands a new pendulum lever, for which a die will have to be made. FRONT SPRINGS & BRACKETS. These are to be ordered without frame stiffener as already fitted to the latest cars. DYNAMO. All modifications under the bonnet for the new dynamo drive, including exhaust pipes, etc., are satisfactory, and are to be ordered as experimental models. GEAR BOX UNIT. It is agreed that the gear box unit is satisfactory, and is to be ordered up to and including the flange on the shaft for the servo. UNDERSHIELD. The undershield will require modification. A sample will be made up, which will be submitted to Mr. Royce for his approval with the various experimental cars, soon after his return. PEDALS. These are to be ordered as on the experimental car, except the sheet pressing for the rod operating the brakes, which is dependent on the final form of servo. ( Contd.) | ||
