Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.

Attention of Mr. Harvey Bailey.

Dear Sirs:

Colonel Matthew has handed to us your letter of yesterday giving particulars received from your Associated Company in America relating to wheels and tyres.

While we were already in possession of the information from our American correspondents, we nevertheless greatly appreciate the fact that you have sent us the particulars, especially as they contain a few more details than we already had.

All the sizes mentioned there in are in our current programme. They can all be supplied immediately, except the 6.50-18 and 6.50-19 which are under preparation, and the 7.00-19 which has not hitherto been catered for in any way. As the information Rolls-Royce of America give to the effect that a number of car manufacturers are using this latter size without waiting for standardisation, is in accordance with what we understand, we are arranging to include this size in our programme also, and any of these will be available for you in due course should you wish to experiment with them.

We are interested in the remarks that Rolls-Royce of America's experience of drop center rims has been unfortunate. We do not know the details of this, but we rather think it is likely to be due to the fact that tyres made primarily for flat base rims have been applied to drop center rims.

In our own manufacture we provide against the tube friction to which Rolls-Royce of America refer by putting a rubber toe properly moulded to shape upon the edge of the bead, and we have no trouble of this kind at all.
