X261. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}...from Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/IH.28.8.33. re Streamline Sports Saloon Bentley. ------------------ The body for this car is well in hand, and, as previously stated, we hope to have the car on the road early after the announcement if it is to be of immediate value. We shall want the chassis at Messrs. Park Ward's to mount the body ourselves, so that we can fit up the fairings around the frame at the front. We discussed with DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} a design for the wing stays to the front wings. We suggest that these should be of spring steel like the leaves of a road spring about .312" thick by 1 1/2" side at the base, tapering off towards the upper end and that they be bolted to an extension of the flange on the sub-axle which carries the [strikethrough]the[/strikethrough] brake shield. We should like to have 3 stays, but think that 2 at 45 degrees to the vertical would suffice. We shall send you in the course of a few days a drawing of the Park Ward Wing showing the shape to which the stays should be bent. With respect to the rear axle, we understand that the high-geared axle for this car is available. In connection with the steering, you will notice that we have used the standard column, but we should like the wheel lowered one inch below the present standard lowest position, if this can be arranged. We should be pleased to hear from you as to when we can expect to receive the chassis. [Signature] | ||
