With reference to steering pivots and steering levers,

We have not yet obtained any information as to whether any spring buffers or elasticity is beneficial for saving the steering gear from the enormous shocks caused by the car running into caniveaux, or worse still, against a sudden rise in the road, such as occurs where the road has been mended in sections.

I cannot help thinking that some elasticity would be very desirable, both for the sake of the steering gear, and also the springs and axles and sub axles.
