| TITLE: L Section Piston Rings. On CONSUMPTION TESTS ON CONDOR III ENGINE SIDE NOTE: The following oil consumption tests were carried out on a Condor III engine (mounted on a hangar). L shaped & Standard piston rings were used. The engine was run at 2100 RPM & a constant oil temperature was maintained for each test, all of which were for the duration of 1 Hr. TABLE DATA: COLUMN HEADERS: Nº OF TEST, TYPE OF RINGS FITTED, OIL CONS PTS/HR, CONDITION OF PISTONS ETC ON DISMANTLING. TEST 1: - Nº OF TEST: 1 - TYPE OF RINGS FITTED: Standard thro' out. after this test these rings were machined L shape & fitted for test Nº2. Nº D-S-6167 - OIL CONS PTS/HR: 25 - CONDITION OF PISTONS ETC: Abundance of oil allround & on the piston top TEST 2: - Nº OF TEST: 2 - TYPE OF RINGS FITTED: L rings thro' out - OIL CONS PTS/HR: 6.3 - CONDITION OF PISTONS ETC: Ample oil on pistons. A ring of oil approx .5" wide around top of pistons TEST 3: - Nº OF TEST: 3 - TYPE OF RINGS FITTED: L rings thro' out Repeat Test - OIL CONS PTS/HR: 7.5 - CONDITION OF PISTONS ETC: ditto TEST 4: - Nº OF TEST: 4 - TYPE OF RINGS FITTED: Standard rings thro' out. N.B:- these rings were new and had not been run previously. - OIL CONS PTS/HR: 51.0 - CONDITION OF PISTONS ETC: Over lubricated allround TEST 5: - Nº OF TEST: 5 - TYPE OF RINGS FITTED: L scraper rings on the skirt only. Remainder Standard (same standard rings as for test 4) - OIL CONS PTS/HR: 21.0 - CONDITION OF PISTONS ETC: Fair amount of oil on pistons TEST 6: - Nº OF TEST: 6 - TYPE OF RINGS FITTED: Two L scraper rings fitted on each piston in 8th. position.
