We have sent prints of the following drawings to R.{Sir Henry Royce} and now send them to you, because, though we cannot give you a decision as to which to work on until we have heard from R.{Sir Henry Royce}, we should very much like you to express any preference you may have at this stage so that we may devote time to completing much of the details as we have omitted on these drawings on the particular one you prefer, if any.

Though we cannot speak with any certainty we have an impression that R.{Sir Henry Royce} will prefer N. sch. 2121.

Herewith we attach N.sch. 2118 (a.{Mr Adams} and b.), 2119, 2120, and 2121.

The reasons for the proposed modifications shewn here are (1) the present foot brake is thought to be inadequate as to area for the 4-wheel brake loads, (2) the present forged drums are thought to be too heavy and expensive, (3) the present hand brake is thought to be somewhat inadequate both as to wearing capacity and stopping power, and (4) the increase of ~~MIX~~ the track gives us a chance to do something which we have not been able to ~~next~~ do before.

We have shewn in all the schemes a drum of thin section. We suppose that we should have the thinnest drum that we could do with for the sake of lightness, and we realise that the actual thickness decided upon will depend to a considerable extent on experimental results.
