Heinze, Aut. Ind., Jan. 20, 1934, p.68. ---------------------------------------------------- Daimler-Benze and Hansa-Lloyd of Germany are both intro-ducing small rear-engined vehicles. The 'Mercedes' has a four-cylinder engine with a displace-ment of 1300 cc., developing 26 h.p. at 3400 r.p.m. The chassis consists of a large central tubular member which is forked at the rear to carry the engine. Two transverse leaf springs are used at the front, whilst at the rear coil springs are employed. Final drive is by a worm and wheel, above which the radiator is arranged with the fan situated behind. Hinged hoods are arranged over the engine and at the front of the car where luggage, spare wheel and tool box can be carried. The 'Hansa' has a two-stroke, two-cylinder blower cooled engine of 400 cc. displacement, developing 11 to 12 h.p. at 3500 r.p.m. The wheelbase is 94½ in. with a tread of 45½ in. Both front and rear wheels are independently sprung by means of transverse leaf springs which take the place of rigid axles. H.L. | ||
