X3986 To Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/AD2.10.29. We have tested out the warning apparatus snowing right and left turns etc. One difficulty with this apparatus is, that as our steering wheel makes 2 1/2 turns every full lock to full lock, a large festoon of flex is necessary to connect the stationary part of the column to the rotating part. A metal finger is necessary to make a reasonable contact here. A further decision is :- "The switch ring fitted to the steering wheel is slightly too large in diameter, fouls the knuckles of the hands when cornering etc. It gives a cramped impression of the steering wheel. The ring being of metal causes the fuse to be blown if any metal shorts between the spokes and the ring." This apparatus is now fitted to 21-EX car, which is being run by Sales as a trials car in London. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
