V 7460 To Ry. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c.c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MJ.20.5.32. x5460. PETROL PUMPS. There are one or two modifications in connection with petrol pumps which have been established experimentally but which have not yet been instructed by the D.O. Will you please therefore note the following :- (1) The stroke of the J.III petrol pump is only .200". It should be increased to .250" the same as the P.II; we cannot see any difficulty in this. (2) The P.II pump should be instructed with two air bottles as on the J.III pump. (3) The passages in the pump should be opened out to .250" dia. No pump, as far as we know, has been instructed with these larger passages. (4) The distance between the centre of the port and the valve seat is very important. We have had cases where the pump delivery was seriously impaired by an error of 1/16" in this dimension. Attached is a sketch showing the positioning of the ports, on P.II and J.III pumps. Will you please instruct the J.II dimensions to be the same as the P.II between the valve seat and port and fix a fine limit. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} | ||
