The above piston was broken in two at the circumferential slit. The analysis is given below :- Copper -------- 7.07 % Iron ---------- 0.65 % Zinc ---------- 0.24 % Silicon ------- 0.23 % This corresponds with Specification 221. A micro-section immediately below the fracture and including part of the wall of the piston, and one of the supporting webs showed a tendency to drawing, with occasional definite discontinuity.
