Cyl - G 9421 X 3630 April 9, 1921 Mr. Claude Johnson, Managing Director, Rolls-Royce Ltd., London, England. Attention: Works Committee. Dear Sir:- X 3630. Re: Inclined Base for Magneto COPY We would like to bring to the attention of the Derby Works Committee the fact that the existing design of the inclined base of the magneto with a steel strap around the magneto tends to affect the slow running of the magneto through short circuiting a portion of the magnetic flux. We believe we have detected very considerable evidences of this defect, and are altering the material of this strip from steel to brass. That the magnetism is actually flowing through the strap is proved by the way the steel strap clings around the magnet. We suggest that this is a point which should be altered as early as possible.
