so that separate cells cannot be removed. Sketch plan
arrangement of this battery as below:-

The main terminals are deep lead covered nuts and all the
other connections are well enamelled. The vent plugs of ebonite
are of good large diameter and screwed; although these vent
plugs have funnel-like openings so as to catch acid spray as
much as possible, and allow the acid to run back into the cells,
we do not find these are effective in preventing the acid
spraying over the top of the battery during charge. Filling
and density readings are very easy.

We had Mr. Minchin of the Peto & Radford Company here
yesterday, and we discussed with him the points that were
desirable in such a lighting and starting battery as we require.
We left it with him that they would send us another ebonite
battery of 60 ampere hour capacity in which such points should
be incorporated. He said they would be willing to make up a
battery to suit our requirements. We are asking the for this
battery to be fitted with short lengths of cable which are
burnt on to the main terminals of the battery and brought to the
outside of the battery case, and battery box, so that all
connections and disconnections will be made at a place which is
not subject to acid spray, that is to say, we are asking for
