X3873 To CWB. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/LG14. 4. 26. GATTIE SPRINGS. X4048 We thank you for the particulars of the Gattie suspension. As you are aware we are fully alive to the advantages of the coil spring as opposed to conventional laminated springs. This is one reason why we bought the Lancia car. The main objection to the Gattie is the multiplicity of working parts, whereas on the Lancia, simplicity is the key-note of the suspension. We are at the moment carrying out tests with balls between the leaves of our standard springs to show the advantages which can be gained at slow speeds on moderately good roads by the elimination of internal friction.
