To EH. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to EH. * CK.{Mr Clark} ORIGINAL. D 27 FEB 1930 x.3481' x.3942' RE INSTRUCTIONS FOR TIMING "GOSHAWK" ENGINE. We send you herewith drawing No. Lec.1124 on which the problem of timing the "Goshawk" engine has been rather carefully gone into. You will see from this drawing that it is necessary to cut away the crankshaft pinion flange locally in between the bolts so as to obtain a way through for viewing the meshing of the crankshaft pinion with the intermediate wheel. A modification to the camshaft worm drive casing is shown in connection with the inspection holes, but it is not absolutely necessary to use these for carrying out the operations stated on Lec.1124. It is hoped that the Experimental Department will work to this drawing when erecting the first engine so that the scheme of operations may be tested and improved upon where possible. R.{Sir Henry Royce} The matter dealt with on this drawing has not been investigated by Mr. Royce, but he considers that we should send it to you as he thinks that it will probably be useful.
