EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

ENGINE MODIFICATIONS.

There has been no trouble with the dynamo, dynamo drive, or magneto drive.

On the exhaust pipe they have had trouble with the valve in the exhaust pipe sticking open. This has been overcome by altering the clearance. There was also trouble with the down pipe fouling the dynamo drive. This was due to the expansion of the exhaust box when hot. We find that the silencer and pipe expand about .200" to .250". We think this has also been a contributory cause of the valves sticking. The position of the down pipes has been altered in order to get ample clearance for the dynamo drive.

ENGINE GUARDS AND GEARBOX GUARDS.

It was proved that we could increase the pitch of the slats in the ventilated engine guards on the exhaust side. The front exhaust silencer forms a useful guard. On the engine guard on the exhaust side, every other slat has been left out. This is helpful as regards keeping the engine and floorboards cooler.

The gearbox undershield has been considerably reduced.

SERVO GEAR NOISE.

The amount of noise coming from the servo gears was appreciably less after the 10,000 miles than when the car started. This is however still a fault which might be complained of.
