FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Attention of W.A.Robotham Esq., D E R B Y. 9th November, 1928. Dear Sir, With reference to your letter of the 6th inst. I am enclosing herewith twelve blocks of our rubber compound No.5. The free length of these samples is 1.125" and the rubber is harder than the previous samples you have had from us. We shall be glad to have your report on this quality rubber when you have had time to carry out the test. As regards the cylinder joint ring, we are in agreement with your conclusion that the expansion of the rubber cannot cause much damage to the cylinder as the clearance space between the cylinder and the aluminium cylinder block when heated, is sufficient to allow the rubber to spue out. We are looking into the mathematics of this question and will let you have further details at an early opportunity. Yours faithfully, FOR DUNLOP RUBBER CO. LTD., [Signature of W.J.B.
