With reference to your memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}19/MH.{M. Huckerby}
5.7.38. you will have to make enquiries from the
Works Depot with reference to GXM.64 GXM.18 and
GWN.56 as these engines were dealt with by them.

Re the question of sticking ball drain
valves.

I reported as long ago as Oct.1936 that the
ball valve became clogged up with carbon which
caused uneven seating. We have not had them
definitely stuck up as with the Phantom. There
are few distinct faults. Phan.III. the balls
remained clean but stuck generally, 25/30 h.p. -
became carboned up. The carburetter man at N.
says he has not had the sticking of the ball valves
or trouble for some time on the 25/30 HP. but he is
going to make a careful note and let me know the
results.
