PHANTOM III. STEERING ROCKER SHAFTS.

As requested, Depots have now examined a
number of Phantom III cars for signs of twisted splines,
with the following results :-

Total examined. Splines
found twisted.

Paris 2 Nil

Derby 5 Nil

N. 34 1

41 1

This represents only 2 1/2%. The one car which had
the splines twisted also suffered from breakdown of the
hardening of the inner races, and it is conceivable that
much of our trouble with the Ph.III rollers has been due
initially to impact loading which is transmitted more
positively from the front wheels owing to lack of flexibility.
