E.A.C. ENGINE.

To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
c. to CJ.
c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}

We dismantled this engine after it had completed 30 hrs. running. Generally, we found it in very good condition.

Tappet adjustment.

In our previous report on this we mentioned that 6 rockers were released for adjustment. This occurs when the tappets are being adjusted on the centre cylinder. Ordinarily, only 3 tappets are released.

Tappet Guides.

It is necessary, when removing the Camshaft, to withdraw all the guides in the crankcase. At the present time there is no provision for withdrawing them. We suggest that they should be screwed at the top so that a simple withdrawing tool could be used. There has been difficulty in producing the tappet guide because of the weak section at the mouth allowing the piece to distort and close in on the tappet. One or two cams were scored slightly owing to the rollers only making line contact. It would appear this was due to the location plate for the tappets being insufficiently robust which allowed the guide to follow the track of the reamer and turn when being pulled in.

Water covers for cylinder. These have countersunk screws.
They were first tried on the 20 HP. but were replaced later
