1245. W/P. Sr. from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/R.18.7.38. Replying to your Sr/Dn30/15.7.38., I suggest that you reply to Duckhams. I see no reason why you should not tell them that pistons and engines are the portions of an engine which are most severely stressed under high speed Continental conditions. With regard to the spare 3½-litre engine, this is exactly as removed from a customer's car, and has had no modifications done to it. In view of the trouble you had with the last engine, we particularly requested you should be allowed to overhaul this one. I forgot to bring away the drawing of your Van Vooren body, could you please let me have a copy ? I also do not seem to have any definite particulars of the wing lamps, and should be much obliged if you could let me have a sample. Messrs. Vandervelle & Johnson were very delighted with their stay in Paris, and asked me to thank you for the way you dealt with them. I attach a copy of the report on the Streamline car. I am trying to arrange for M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Paulin to visit the Works with a view to seeing if we cannot use him on styling some of our cars. If he could do one or two sketches as I suggested of a Lincoln Zephyr type of front end and radiator, and also bring with him any other sketches he has, they might be useful.
