-5- mechanism for the third and direct gears has functioned and ease of change has been consistent. At no time during the mileage has any gear come out of mesh. Special Aero Mobileil D has been used in the gear box for 14000 miles. A fault but not considered serious is oil leaking through the bearing of the foot brake shaft. The bearing comes in direct line with the cone of the synchromesh which flings the oil on to the bearing. The oil passing through is blown off and on to the servo mechanism. Amount of oil added to the box for the 14000 miles was .350 of a pint. SERVO & MOTOR MACH. LOP.S.54306. The servo became not to be efficient with a slight amount of oil getting onto the outer fabric. This was cleaned off, friction discs rebodded and oil supply cut off. It has since run 14000 miles in this condition without further trouble. STEERING COLUMN & BOX LOP.F.54380. The steering has been selective. At no time has there been any sign of a wobble. The steering wheel has jiggled but has been governed by the condition of road traversed. On extreme locks it has had a tendancy to stick. Oil added to box .07 of a pint. REAR AXLE LOP.S.54203. AXLE N°Exp.1.-4A-11X50. The following New parts fitted to give 11 X 50 Ratio. 1-S.54010 Bevel Wheel 1-S.54519 Pinion. The axle has been very good for absence of any periods of noise both forward and on the overrun. It has been free from oil leaking down the driving shaft into the brake drums. It has not been necessary to add any oil throughout the mileage. At a mileage of 4600. when the axle was hot, a slackness could be felt in the front pinion bearing. Although the clanking in the drive of the axle has become more pronounced very little wear can be measured. At the start of the mileage there was | ||
