Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid{A. J. Lidsey}15/KT.1.11.33. The policy of making the Lub: Oil Pump to R.R. design as against purchasing a Pump unit complete from Lucas was brought up as long ago as June 1932, when the Luvax Bijur system was about to be introduced on production. In our memo Sft.{Mr Swift}1/MM.29.6.32, to WOR{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}, copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and Roy{Sir Henry Royce}, you will note we rather doubted the saving claimed on the grounds that it was largely a matter of charges and design. The comparative figures are:- Luvax Pump Unit £2.10s.0d. R.R. " " Net Labour 17s.5d. " " Net Material. 14s.7d. £1.12s.0d. We believe there is also a royalty involved. Apart from cost we pointed out that Luvax pump would be a simpler job than the one we were making and we put forward the suggestion that if the matter was one of cost only we could make a pump similar to the Luvax pump for the same price or perhaps less. Having heard nothing more of this suggestion we naturally presumed that everybody was satisfied with the position as it was. We have received today Std: sheets proposing to fit the Lucas Pump unit on 40/50-HP. and 20/25-HP. Sft.{Mr Swift} [Signature] | ||
