lightest spirit can (with our engine in its present condition) be made to give the most economical results. The impulses with this light spirit were noticed to be exceeding even and regular.

In conclusion, I want you to repeat these experiments and go further as experience suggests, and it would appear that to dilute petrol with any heavier spirit is an excellent way of finding out the value of induction pipes for distribution and it emphasizes the suggestion that I made to you to try the smaller induction pipe to see whether any improvement can be obtained in the distribution, etc. I would be worth while trying two sizes smaller.

Later, I will send you some suggestions for carburetter and induction pipe arrangements that will give more equal distribution to see whether this will enable a heavier spirit to be used more satisfactorily. It may also be made better by the increase in the heated air delivered to the carburetter, and the increased atomising which can be obtained by thebuse of the smaller carburetter.

You will remember that for the 1908 trials we used the small jet only, and obtained excellent consumption. I think we might repeat this experiment, shutting off the high speed jet entirelym using the low speed jet with an extra air valve, tosee whether such a high velocity carburetter would atomise the petrol and-i better and improve the distribution.

Finally everything must be done to get better distribution in future
