Dynamo. I informed the Lucas Co. that we are not prepared to accept delivery of the 100 to 150 dynamos E.575 which they have either finished in their Stores or just coming off test, nor are we prepared to agree to their altering said dynamos to the 1" longer pattern at a charge to us of £7.15.0d per dynamo. I communicated to the Lucas Co. R's opinion that if said dynamos are satisfactory machines, they (Lucas') should have no difficulty in disposing of them.

Lucas' replied that the dynamos are drilled to suit our method of suspension, which was different to that employed by their other customers using the same dynamo, but eventually they agreed to withdraw their demand that we accept delivery of those dynamos, either as they are or altered to the 1" longer type.

It follows that if this arrangement is adopted by the Works Committee and confirmed by R.{Sir Henry Royce}, we shall not be called upon to accept delivery of any further dynamos E.575 model.

As regards the dynamos of E.575 model now in our Stores, I explained to the Lucas Co. that we are of opinion that those machines should not be dismembered to contribute to the construction of the new dynamos of the 1" longer dynamo with the assistance of those usable parts taken from the existing dynamos.

At the same time, Lucas' reaffirmed that if we choose to return to them dynamos of the E.575 model which have been in service, they would build new 1" longer type dynamos, utilising as far as possible the materials of the dynamos returned, and charge us the sum of £7.15.0d each for the conversion, although every such transaction would result in a heavy loss to them. This would apply also to any of the unused dynamos of this pattern which we have in our stores.

Lucas' are inclined to agree with R's opinion that if the other parts of the equipment, such as the cutout, fuse holders etc. are replaced with thoroughly efficient and reliable parts, the dissatisfaction now
