Forsyth Esq., Asst. Secretary, F.V.P., Ministry of Supply, The Adelphi, LONDON, W.C.2. 16th November, 1942. 1282 Dear Sirs, Petrol for Cars operating with the Rolls-Royce (Tank Division) Clan Foundry, Belper. In reply to your letter dated 11th November, 1942 and further to our letter of the 31st October ref. D {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} /JB.5/GH., we wish to inform you that the question of petrol for operating Tank Division transport at the Clan Foundry, Belper has not been settled, in fact no change from the previous arrangements has been made. At the present moment we are trying to operate a fleet of 12 vehicles for three months on 1320 gallons which only works out at 8 1/2 gallons of petrol per week per vehicle. This is totally inadequate for the amount of work we have to do and we herewith again request that this amount be increased to 2,400 units per three months which allows 15 1/2 gallons of petrol per vehicle per week. We have only three lorries to transport all our material for Tanks and Tank Engines. When we desire to transport small quantities of material required urgently for experimental work or production, we do not consider it economical to use a 3 ton lorry when a 10 HP car can do the job and a tremendous amount of our transport comes within this category. Therefore we would like you to appreciate that 50% of our vehicles are used more or less for the transport of material. If it is not possible to issue a further quantity of 'E' coupons could you not issue us with Commercial 'I' coupons for our cars that are carrying goods. At the moment considerable difficulty and delay is being experienced in our work due to the lack of transport. I am enclosing with this letter a map of England showing the various towns between which we have to operate. We urgently require another 300 gallons of petrol to enable us to function at all for the remainder of this month. -continued- | ||
