RX/MS c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} [Redacted] 428 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}28/G.30.12.38. FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} BENTLEY V.{VIENNA} GEAR BOX. Please receive PD.343 Temporary scheme for spring loaded synchromesh with small cones to PD.239. As the holes for the ball plunger springs are considered to weaken the shaft too much, this scheme is only intended to try the principle. A new scheme with larger shaft will be issued for production. As will be seen most pieces can be made by modifying existing pieces. The arrangement on the top and 3rd speeds, which has advantages over the more usual flat spring type, is thought possibly worthy of a patent. Details urgently required.
