My dear Grylls,

With reference to your letter of the 22nd inst., I am returning by post under separate cover the double row ball bearing, 1/MDJT.1.1/4", and all I have done to this is to have the tracks polished, and of course, a new set of balls fitted.

In the state as received the feel of the bearing was very rough, and from an examination of the bearing and the surfaces there is no doubt that this roughness was due to the presence of metallic foreign matter, and I should imagine this is loose matter from the gearbox itself.

However, after polishing I believe you will find the bearing quite satisfactory from the point of view of run, but if this is not the case then the only thing we can do is to re-track this and re-fit it up, but in view of the urgency I thought it better to send the bearing so that you can try it as it stands.

With regard to the Vacuum Hypoid Gear Lubricant which was discussed during my recent visit, this I find we have tested, and you will find the results of this test under Test Report 753.B.(2). This report you will find amongst the complete set of Test Reports on "E.P." lubricants, and I trust this information will be of interest and utility.

Incidentally, referring to the question of pre-loading the pinion bearing, our 6/MDJT.30, I rather thought during our
