Many thanks for your letter of the 3rd.

Pedals.
We note what you say about the pedals, it is important that we should know what the rattle is because these pedals are being standardised.

Cut-Out.
We want you to find out what sort of guard is wanted to stop fumes getting into the body.

Oil Consumption.
This sounds a bit alarming. If you can run for half a day, not exceeding the speed at which the distributor drive starts to leak, we should get an idea whether the oil is being used or flung out on to the road. If oil is being used we may have to alter our scraper rings, but our consumption should actually be better than last time the car was in France.

Shock Damper Setting.
We should like to know the minimum setting that you can use to satisfy your continental requirements. You will of course use the washers that have now been agreed to be better than drilled valves. We appreciate that until we get controllable dampers we shall not get a setting which will be suitable for both Continental and English conditions, but we entirely agree with you that under certain English conditions the setting of your car is too flexible, so that you are bound to complain on the Continent.

We had a good send-off of the Bentley on Monday when we showed it to the Press. We had practically no criticisms.
