EXHAUST JOINTS.

The screwed exhaust joint on the manifold is the type which the end of the pipe is opened out and the pressure of the nut is supposed to cause the pipe to bed on the spherical seating. We find that this type of joint is very successful on the small diameter copper pipes but we have had a considerable amount of trouble in trying to make this joint tight with the large diameter steel pipe. We recommend that we use a joint similar to what has proved successful on the 40/50 H.P. chassis.
