We have received the samples mentioned in your letter of the 8th. inst. and are at once proceeding to test them.

We thank you for supplying us with these pieces.

There is one point upon which we are not quite clear. Do you consider that it is necessary to grind the surface of your steels after nitro hardening in order to remove the brittle layer which is inclined to flake off? Perhaps some of your steels have not this brittle layer. We should of course prefer in all cases to avoid this final grinding.
