As I informed Mr. [handwritten insert: in] Covley this afternoon on the 'phone, C.J. wishes me to take the open trials car to the South of France as soon as possible, in order that the bad impression which appears to be in the minds of Lord Rocksavage and others in that part of the world, may be altered by demonstrations given with our trials car.

The critisims [handwritten correction] I refer to relate to insufficient road speed, unsatisfactory steering and holding the road at high speeds, and it is felt that our open trials car with shock absorbers fitted should create this better impression.

It is most important that the car gets away as soon as possible. I understand that you will be able to send to London a pair of shock absorbers for us to fit.
It would not be wise to wait for the modified shock absorber, as this would take too long, and if necessary, this could follow the car to the South of France, provided that the modification is not essential owing to some very definite weakness in the existing design.

The rear springs of the car will also be immediately examined with a view to ascertaining if the bottom leaves are still alright.
