DIP STICK AND OIL FILLER PLUG. A criticism of the present dip stick and filler combination has been made. With the existing scheme, when it has been ascertained by means of the dip stick that oil is required, it is necessary to remove the large hexagon plug by means of a box spanner. After putting in a quantity of oil, it is then necessary to replace the hexagon plug in order to check the level. If the level is still incorrect the procedure has to be repeated. It is suggested that the plug is made a push fit in the gearbox, and combined with the dip stick on lines of the attached sketch. By this means we shall overcome the disadvantages of our present scheme, which we agree are real and finally effect an economy by deleting the hexagon plug and the tapping in the gearbox. The proposed device will mean a reduction in the size of the filling orifice, but we do not consider this any disadvantage, as the size of orifice dates from the time when heavy oils were used. In any case, to avoid soiling the interior of the car or pouring the oil over the gearbox, we consider that a funnel is necessary. [Diagram Text] WELDED.
