quickly so that they can be fitted to the engines now being ordered.

We are avoiding the question of Mineral Oil versus Castor Oil on the "R" type engines as we do not want to jeopardise the position with regard to orders, and we feel sure that the position is quite satisfactory as regards the engines with carburetters in the vee in machines of the types to which these engines are being fitted. Our only doubt would be when these engines, particularly the moderate supercharger type, are fitted in flying boats, and similar cases where they have heavy power running at sea level.

The position is that OY's memo, attached to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}6/T17.3.30 can be worked to very closely. There are a few exceptions which are tabulated below:-

(1) The second chassis is to have the latest type subframe to suit the new bonnet, radiator and dash design, which Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} agreed to include after it was submitted to him by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} This will not delay the second chassis. The matter was discussed and decided upon after seeing WHC.

(2) Jellying of Radiator.
The first two chassis will be standard. Improvements introduced in radiator suspension will be applied to American production when standardised.

(3) Lighting.
The "stop" and backing light switches were agreed to, but we are not providing a dimming switch, this being extra.

(4) Carburetter Air Cleaner.
We are applying to the second chassis only the single air intake type of carburetter produced by R.{Sir Henry Royce} to meet air cleaner requirements.

(5) Bonnet and Dash.
The latest type radiator, bonnet and dash as shown on N.Sch.3035 is being incorporated on the second chassis in accordance with Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s instructions.

(6) No extra filling position is being allowed for on the axle.
