W/S. To C. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X180. Hsl/MJ.20.7.39 We are closely watching the question of getting rid of all standard cars as early as possible. As regards the cars you mention - 12-EX. This is a standard Phantom short chassis but is fitted with central lubrication. This alters a great number of parts on the car. At the moment we cannot afford to part with this car because it is the only standard Phantom we have and we are using it for any urgent runs to Aerodromes and work in connection with "R" engine. As soon as SS.{S. Smith} cars are released we are prepared to get rid of this car. We think it would be a very great pity to remove the central lubrication, and therefore it might be arranged to be sold to some of our friends who would appreciate it. 14-EX. This is not a standard Phantom. It has the same spring as the present SS.{S. Smith} but we use a standard Phantom engine gear box. This is an odd car which we should never wish to part with and when we have no further use for it we would recommend it was dismantled. 9-EX., Is also an odd car with SS{S. Smith} rear springing. It is a car we should not wish to sell. We should have to dismantle it. With regard to 20 HP. cars, the only standard car we have which is 17-G4 has just completed 10,000 miles. | ||
