Dear Mr. Pilkington, Mr. Herrington is away on vacation, but your letter addressed to him, and dated 1st inst., has been handed to me. Actually, it is only a week or two ago since we made this arrangement with Rolls Royce to have their help in applying the bearing metal to general applications, and as I am myself leaving for the Continent today, I was leaving it until my return on the 16th inst., before getting in touch with you in regard to this new arrangement we have made. The position is that this is, as far as we can see, a very great advance in bearing materials, but the application of it to each particular engine needs to be carefully studied. As you perhaps know, the Rolls Royce Company are fitting this bearing material not only to the connecting rods, but throughout the main bearings. I think the best way to get a start in the application would be for you to visit the Rolls Royce factory with me, bringing drawings of the engines, and to see exactly what is being done at Rolls. I shall be glad, therefore, if you could let me know a date on which you could make this visit, say, any time after the 16th inst., omitting Contd ... | ||
