To BJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. c. to PN.{Mr Northey} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X435 R2/M17.11.22. RE. PACKARD. X.435. X.4219. Regarding the 27 HP. Packard, its capacity is 40% greater than Goshawk. Do you want so large a chassis, or do you want our 20 HP. and 40/50 HP ? At present we have to make the best of the Goshawk as it is, unless it fails. Many good authorities have said that its performance is wonderfully good. We have examined many of these lower geared, big engined American cars. They are wonderful at first, then gradual fizzle out. You will remember that there is resentment against my agitation against weight. This should make Sales realise I am not doing it for past-time. There can be no object in buying a Packard. We do not propose to alter the Goshawk, and there is no mystery about it. The 12-cyl. was the same tale, and the Cadillac 8 cyl., big engine, low gear, and light equipment. Does it really matter if on such a grade mentioned one has to change gear? Better do that than carry a big engine swallowing petrol. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
