Heat had generated causing discolouration of the con-rod bearing cap. The bearing had been forced out and lapped over the con-rod metal. The metal had softened and had been pressed into the feed hole of the con-rod. In our opinion, the cause was lack of clearance, the metal having grown and taken up all the clearance, a partial seizure of metal took place on the crank pin, broke off and then forced the metal out as the pin revolved. There was no sign of the metal breaking up.

The shims received the same treatment and was hammered, making deep indents where they were in contact with the bearing. The remaining rods are free.
