TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "DUNLOPS, BIRMINGHAM" TELEPHONE: BIRMINGHAM CENTRAL 4108 P.B.E. 25 LINES YOUR REF: OUR REF: WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}LW.10.187 FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM By Please return HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 18th July 1923. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Attention of Mr. Robotham. Dear Sirs, Replying to your letter of the 14th inst. (reference Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Emb/LG) addressed for the attention of Mr. Paull - we are listing a 6.00" tyre for 20" rim bearing the size designation of 32x6.00. May we mention that in future communications it would be advisable to use the full sectional description 6.00. There are other tyres called 6", e.g., heavy commercial vehicle tyres, and it is desirable that the car tyres shall be distinguished in this way. In reply to your enquiry - we do intend to continue making this tyre in addition to the 19" and 21" rims. It is necessary to do so in view of the very large development of the 20" rim in the United States and the necessity for us to make tyres to fit United States cars. As a matter of fact, we believe the situation now is that there is no car in the States fitting 21" rims as original equipment, except the Ford and Chevrolet. Therefore, we do not anticipate that you will find any difficulty with supplies. In reply to your last question - we are not in a position to supply the "Silent" tread with this size of tyre. For the moment, we are only making the "Silent" tread for the 21" rim 6.00 and 6.75 tyre sections. Should, however, you eventually decide to adopt the 32x6.00 and find it necessary to have this size in the "Silent" type as standard, we should naturally give your request our most sympathetic consideration. Yours faithfully, for THE DUNLOP RUBBER CO.LTD., W. Bond Technical Director's Office for Mr. Paull. | ||
