Cricklewood,
LONDON, N.W.2.

For the attention of Mr. Sessions.

Dear Sirs,

We have had further trouble with one of the portable jacks. When trying to jack a car the pump would cease to operate, sometimes at no lift and sometimes when about half extended.

We therefore removed the top pot to find out what was wrong. The replenishment valve was not seating on the compression stroke, and air was escaping past it.

Air may have got into the jack past the ram gland due to the foot being pulled down by someone in a hurry. Dirt may have got on the ball valve seating.

There does not seem to be any spring under the replenishment valve and gravity keeps it off its seat.

We should like to know the correct procedure for filling these jacks. As the filling plug is now situated, it appears almost impossible to get all the air out of the jack. If the filler were on top of the pot, would this not be better ?

Please let us have your answer as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
