Your Ref. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}2/AP. 5th January, 1938. I/NB. 478. MESSRS. ROLLS ROYCE LTD., DERBY. For the attention of Mr.A.F.Martindale. Dear Sirs, Tests on Safeguard material. We thank you for the information given in your letter of the 3rd instant giving us results of your tests on our Friction materials. Our comments on the items dealt with are as follows: - 1. It is impossible to offer any explanation as to why the Servo Linings should squeak after only 1,500 miles, as the linings in question were precisely the same as the others which, we understand, functioned satisfactorily. 2. We are pleased to note that you have put the "400" G.M.Linings on a car, but regret to have such an unfavourable report on their behaviour. The squeak may or may not be due to the friction material, for from the information you give, there is evidence of serious maladjustment. Obviously, if the car dives to one side, the brakes are out of balance, and hence the linings on one wheel are going to be very much overworked. | ||
