To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Y4217 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}15/KW.7.2.34. Terraplane Engine in 20/25 Chassis. --------------------------------- 18-G-IV. We want to fit the Terraplane engine in a 20/25 chassis. We find there is just room between the radiator and dashboard. We want, however, to retain a 20/25 gearbox and brake system. This will necessitate a new clutch housing, clutch withdrawal gear and a special 1st motion shaft. We suggest that the front of the engine is supported as in the Terraplane, two cantilever brackets being required for this, and that the R.R. gearbox rear suspension is used. For the electrical system we shall have to use the Terraplane dynamo, starter and cut-out. We shall have to fit 6-volt bulbs to the lights and run the two halves of the battery in parallel. In order to make a drawing of the clutch housing we shall have to remove the Terraplane engine from the chassis and take the necessary measurements. We also want to confirm that the crankcase walls are .125" thick. We understand the engine only weighs 400 lbs., and wish to investigate how this has been done.
