To EJJ/JV. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} 1209 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}6/AP.9.11.37. Regarding the dynamometer DPX.4. (B.17860) which was removed from the Ph.III. bed in No.5. Test House some time ago for attention, the troubles were as follows:- (1) Speed could not be controlled when running under full power e.g. Running at 3500 R.P.M. and taking readings the speed would go up to say 4000 R.P.M. and when attempts at adjusting back to 3500 R.P.M. were made the speed would come down to say 3000 R.P.M. The water feed pipe which was 3/4" diam. was thought to be the cause by fitting a 1.0" pipe no improvement was effected. The trouble was definitely in the brake as the one fitted in its place gives satisfactory results. (2) Control wheel very tight to operate at high speeds.
