Evaluating a sample wheel jack from Tangye for 20 HP cars, with suggestions for improvement and an inquiry about a similar jack for 40/50 cars.

Y3117 In response to your enquiries we have received a sample jack suitable for 20 HP. cars from the Tangye Jack people. We have been enquiring for a jack to replace the Michelin at present used. Generally we are very favourably impressed with the sample submitted. It easily copes with our demands as regards minimum height, mechanical lift etc., and is sturdy and very well made. There are one or two points we should like to criticise - viz: (a) If the jack be over-wound, there is difficulty in re-lowering it, this might possibly be overcome by strengthening up the part of the jack that limits its upward movement. (b) The length of handle might be increased from 30.5" to 36" to facilitate handling on the rear of a car. (c) We should welcome any possible reduction in weight but not at the expense of efficiency either in the jack or the handle. The Jack is 1 lb. 9 ozs. heavier than the Michelin Forest type - we should like the Tangye jack to more nearly approach this if possible. Perhaps the outer casing made in aluminium would save weight. Owing to the rather unsatisfactory service weight by the Dunlop jack for 40/50 cars it would possibly pay us to ask Tangye's if they can offer us a jack suitable for that chassis on the same lines as the [strikethrough]xxxxx[/strikethrough] one submitted for the 20 HP. The jack for the 40/50 should fulfil the following requirements. Minimum height not more than... 6.25" Mechanical lift............... 7.50" Initial hand adjustment........ 2.75" Max. height not less than...... 7.50". contd :- | ||
