To CK.{Mr Clark} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. " " PN.{Mr Northey} " " C. " " BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.3362 ORIGINAL. WW RE LIGHTING INSTALLATION. Referring to the small lighting installation here, this I have written about before as being a wonderful boon for the office work here. The lighting for all reasonable purposes is ample with a 48 c.p. ½ watt lamp for each drawing board. In addition to its usefulness, I intended it as a means of watching the behaviour of this type of plant, and it has shewn us - X.1369 X.1114 (1) That the Mazda B.T.H. lamps for cars were quite unsatisfactory, both in the case of ½ watt lamps and the small ¼ watt lamps. (2) It has shewn us that the Ediswan lamps were vastly superior to No.1. (3) It has shewn us that the Osram ½ watt lamps, both large and small, are extremely satisfactory as regards life and efficiency. We do not know, however, that they will stand the vibration they get on a car. X.3231 X.3014 X.3763 X.576 (4) It has shewn us that the Bijur dynamo makes a most terrible singing row under the circumstances we are running it, and it is quite possible the others which are built on similar lines are also noisy. This has been proved to be the case, and in addition to the noise generated by the belt which is rather a low vibration, there is on 1 EX. a definite sing which is electrical, because this part of the noise does not begin until the switch is put in. X.802 I want you to send me specimens of the wire we have arranged to be made at Glovers with and without ferflex armouring, and the current that each conductor is intended to carry. If you could arrange this in a box or on a board with the data, it would be useful in case we do any owner wiring work. (Contd.) W H 522+ (200 L) (R'D' 408' 50-1-11) H&W STREET | ||
