Re our complaint to the English Steel Corporation relating to the incorrect poundage and etching of the Front Wheel Springs.

A representative called on Monday the 13th inst., bringing with him two springs, which we tested on our machines. These springs gave readings inconsistent with the poundage etched on by E.S.C.

We then had both springs tested in the Laboratory and found that one Outer Spring G.83698 was O.K. to their figures, which proved that our machine in the Forge is reading incorrectly, the other Spring G.83692 was O.K. to our machine but 25lbs out to their figures. This is within our drawing limits.

The latter spring is measured on a Spring Balancing machine in the Central Stores Inspection, but G.83698 is measured on an Hydraulic Spring Testing machine in the Forge. This machine in our opinion is not reliable, we have therefore instructed Mr.Peskett to overhaul same, but we really think it would be better to invest in a new machine.

We also complained to the representative about springs being etched incorrectly (the piece number being changed over) and in the wrong place. They have promised to avoid a recurrence.
