Dear Mr. Palmer,

Very many thanks for your interesting letter of the 6th inst., and the petrol level indicator.

As you will remember, the big feature we are up against with the open choke downdraught carburetter is the changeover at small throttle opening, or more correctly, at slow increasing air velocity through the carburetter.

It seems to me at the moment that possible cures can be sifted down to two alternatives. One, by fitting a smaller choke, and two, by modifying the method of discharge at the throttle edge to prolong its action (against depression). The first is limited of course by top power, so the second is more feasible.

I have been wondering if you have any development data amongst your files relative to the actual working of the discharge holes at the throttle edge of your carburetter. This sort of thing always helps considerably, when such modifications are contemplated.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
