A carburetter to be fitted having the necessary internal corrections for air flow (This should be in Exp. Garage Stores).

No Air Silencer or air bend.

PLB.30 X. Spark plugs, gaps at .040.

Lucas coil off the Vauxhall 25 car.

Delco-Remy suction ignition control.

In this condition, the car should be tuned in the normal way for maximum economy by G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Ratcliffe and consumption tests carried out.

Test tackle and procedure at Vauxhall Works.

The following is a description of the test tackle used by Vauxhall's for their work on petrol consumption problems. It is suggested that we should obtain the same tackle, with the possible exception of the carburetter testing rig. The last mentioned, however, enables an accurate check to be made on any of the known variables in a carburetter. This instrument is the only means of telling the Carburetter Manufacturer where he is wrong. It is interesting to note also, that according to Mr. Alex. Taub, the complete instrument could be shipped over from U.S.A. (General Motors) if we desired, and he would be glad to give us every assistance in getting it rigged up and working satisfactorily.

Carburetter Testing Rig (Flow tests).

Air Consumption.

Accurately calibrated, smooth approach orifices, suitably mounted in an orifice tank, and with sensitive inclined manometer for measuring the pressure drop across the orifice. A series of orifices will meet a large range of requirements. This method has the advantage of simplicity; and with careful calibration, fair accuracy, providing precaution is taken by the use of a surge tank - baffles - or pulsator, to prevent fluctuating flow through the orifice.
