Description of Parts: "D" TYPE C.H.N.S. KEYED TYPE CHANGE GEAR SHAFT - MODIFIED BUSH AND BEARING.
Origin: To prevent grit getting bush and shaft causing change speed lever to bind.
Experimental Test Report: This improved design got over the binding effect when changing from 2nd. to 3rd. or direct gears. The binding was caused by wear of the bush and scoring of the shaft with grit etc. 10,000 miles in France fitted to 12-E.X. The change speed lever was free from jamming throughout the test. There was no sign of cutting or scoring of the shaft due to grit etc.
Air Ministry consent obtained difference in weight.
"A"-Scrap and replace at all costs.
"B"-Scrap and replace on those engines in Works.
